Lack of traffic is one of the major problem for any new blogger or website owner sometimes makes them feel desperate and even makes them left blogging in the initial stages. Even if your blog is new you can have a decent amount of traffic just by following some activities that can generate you good amount of visitors. Just as a side note I want any new blogger to know that every 3 months Google updates page rank for any website on the internet so you should be dropping your link everywhere to get a hand full of back links because more back links (quality of links matters i’ll write some other day about this) more page rank.

Here are some quick methods where you can generate instant traffic from referring sites.

Social Bookmarking Websites

These days Social bookmark websites are owning the web everyone out there is stumbling, digging, mixing or whatever you name it and if you are webmaster and already saw the traffic effects from these websites then you must be aware of fact how much beneficial these websites can be in sense of diverting visitors to your website and give exposure to your content. All you have to do is to register on many famous social bookmark websites and submit your pages there but this is not enough make a lot of friends (probably the one’s already have blogs) where you will have the opportunity of social networking.

Link & Thumb Exchanges

This is also another effective way of making your blog famous and gets permanent readers. By link exchanging or thumb exchanging you link to other’s blog and they link yours two common ways of doing link exchange are in content link change or in blog roll. While link or thumb exchanging you should consider that the other blog should be the same genre of your blog like you can’t thumb exchange with food blog if you write about technology there is less chance of getting benefit. Want thumb or link exchange with TechCats? go to Contact Me Page and give me a message.

Guest Posting

Make blogger friends contact them from their website contact form and ask that you want to do a guest post on their blog when they accept your proposal put your website url and your feed url in the beginning or at the end of the post this way you can have a quality back link plus you’ll get some RSS readers too and the best of all some visitors.

Commenting on blogs

The key to success is ‘leave trackbacks where ever you go’ this is possible when you comment on other’s blog. Leaving comments on every blog you visit will help spreading your links over the web there is chance you’ll get visitors, the main benefit of doing this is the author of blogs you visit will also comment on your blog which is the only way to know what people think about your content. A tip from my side, make a folder in your bookmarks and then bookmark your favourite blogs in it and then comment on these blogs regularly.

Post your content to forums

When you write something sizzling or too new then you should write about it in forums with a back link of your blog post. But you have to be sure the post is worth posting in forums because you can’t post your blog links daily on forums doing this everyday will end up with a banned account because the moderators will consider it as spam.

Start a contest, give prizes

This is really an effective and quick way of gaining popularity and traffic, the game is simple here choose a prize which you think really is useful and your readers need, it can be a domain, a rapid share account or a hosting package (but you shouldn’t spend too much a reasonable prize will do the job) make rules ask them, to take part in the contest a back link is required, a comment on this post and subscribe to out RSS or E-mail feeds and believe me they’ll do it. To give it real hype you can ask some of your popular bloggers friends to write about your contest in their blog.

This applies to myself as well (not that I am a successful blogger). My primary source of income comes from my long time online business, which has been around since 1999 (acquired its own domain name in late 2002). I started this website as a hobby in my university years, providing free tutorials on photoshop, dreamweaver, css, php… etc. But after some time it became popular and was driving thousands of visitors every month.

After my degree, when I was working in Web Design field, I added free website templates to my website. This too attracted a lot of visitors. After all, who doesn’t love free stuff right?

Traffic and free stuff brings business

By now, I was getting a lot of requests to design websites. Initially, I did a lot of freelancing (not all listed in portfolio). It did bring quite substantial amount of income, but it also involved a lot of hard work on my part. So, to reduce my workload, I introduced ready website templates to my website. This took huge workload off my shoulders. Because, now people who were looking for web design were purchasing my website templates directly, instead of hiring me for custom design. As a result, I had more free time for other things.

By now my hobby site that started humbly in 1999, was making money from many sources, including advertising (i.e text links, publisher programs, affiliate programs etc.) If it was not for my free tutorials, I wouldn’t be where I am now – doing what I like most, staying at home and creating my own projects and products. Of course blogging has been part of my everyday life for the past 2 years now.

Lessons learned

Here are some of the lessons that I can bring to your attention from my life, work and entrepreneurial experience so far.

Have more than one online business – if you have only a blog as your online income generator, try to open few more businesses. If you are not sure what kind of business you can do online, there are tons of ideas on Amazon. Just make some research and pick few ideas to work on.

Pursue your hobby – just keep doing what you love i.e your hobby. You never know what it might bring you in the future. For example, I graduated with a degree in ICT, majoring in Databases. But I ended up working in the field of Web Design. And now most of my income comes from web design related things. Not bad for a hobby that brings money, huh? If I had abandoned my interest in web design then, I wouldn’t be where I am now.

Turn services into products – if you can, try to turn your service into a product. This way you can put your business on auto-pilot! As a result, you will have more free time for your new projects. For example, I have turned my web design service into a product, which is website template.

Give away things for free – by giving away things for free you benefit both parties; the community, and yourself. I gave away tutorials (my knowledge) and website templates for free without knowing that they would one day bring me enough money to be self-employed. Leo Babauta has a good article on this too, read here.

Make your own products – sure you can make a lot of money by selling someone else’s products. But why not reverse the situation? You could easily become the party that provides the affiliate program. This way others would sell your products, and you would get the larger share of the profit. There is nothing more satisfying than selling your own products. Moreover, investing in your own products is a long-term strategy, which could very well secure your profitability for a long time to come. You have no programming skills? No problem, there are thousands of people who has. Just invest some of your time and money, and you can have your own product in no time.

Act on your ideas and thoughts – Don’t read all the popular business books and bestsellers just for the sake of reading only (So that you can say “I read that book”). Because knowledge that is not acted upon, is no better than not having that knowledge at all. Unfortunately, many of us simply don’t take that first step to make our ideas and thoughts a reality, to turn our ideas into a potential business that could sustain us (possibly for the rest of our lives). So if you are not gonna act, don’t waste your money on books. Instead you could collect that money and hire someone to do some project for you.

I hope you will find some of these tips useful. Please do share your own tips that have made a difference in your life or business.

Writing blog posts comes naturally to some people, but some struggle to write and convey their message effectively. Following some of the tips below, can improve your blog posts’ quality.

Get to the point, will you?

It’s very important that you get to the point in the first few sentences of your blog post. If you cannot do that (perhaps the topic is too broad) then at least give an abstract of what you will be talking first. This is to get the attention of the reader from the beginning, and to give them the idea on what the blog post will be all about.

So, don’t write few paragraphs building a base for your punchline in your post. Leaving the most important part of the post to the end is a bad idea. Unless you are some politician or celebrity, you want to grow your blog’s readership and reach, and by beating around the bush in your blog posts, you will only hinder your blog’s growth. Because new readers generally don’t read posts that they don’t know what it is talking about, and they don’t have the time to to figure out what it’s talking about by reading few paragraphs.

Use simple words

If your blog is about helping others or teaching them, or sharing your experiences so that they can benefit from it. Then you have to use simple words that everyone can understand. For example, if you have these two different words with a similar meaning to describe a man “sagacious” and “wise“. You should choose “wise man“.

You know what I am talking about right? Again, you don’t have to unnecessarily degrade your speech with primitive words. This is not meant by “using simple words”. It depends on your audience as well. But all else equal, you have to pick words that won’t confuse your readers or won’t make them think what the word means. Try your best to make your sentences flow smooth.

Format and structure your posts

If you are writing long posts (pillar articles) make sure that you structure your posts to make them easier to read. As described in the first point, have an intro part and then have other parts under their own sub-heading. Using headings will make it easier to scan your posts.

Formatting is important as well, whenever necessary

use

bullet

points

It’s much better to scan bullet points, than say reading them all in one sentence separated by comma. Pointing out important parts of your blog post by bolding or highlighting does facilitate easy reading too. Increasing the space between the text lines using CSS can improve your article’s readability.

Picture says a thousand words

Most of the time it’s easier to describe things if you show a picture, a screenshot, an illustration or a diagram etc. Sometimes complex things can be described by one diagram or a screenshot. Therefore, whenever possible, incorporate visual materials in your blog posts.

Don’t write more than it needs to be written

If you can describe something in few sentences and done with it, then do that! Don’t go around trying to write a novel just to make your post longer. It’s better to have a concise, straight to the point blog post rather than a long but meaningless one.

This is related to the first point but it’s not the same. Here we are talking about the length of the blog post, but in point one we are talking about the importance of getting right to the point in the first paragraph no matter how long your blog post is.

Write descriptive headlines

Better headlines have more than one advantage, they will entice the user to read more of your article, and they will drive more traffic to your blog from search engines.

Here is how you can write better headlines: link and link.

Tip: Usually I write headlines for my readers and not for SEO, I use the post slug for SEO purposes.

Your opinion counts

Finally, as I always stress, it’s your opinion that is the most important thing in blogging. Your opinion (plus your personality) is your “brand” in the blogosphere. Your opinion is the thing that differentiates you from other bloggers. Therefore, don’t just be an invisible reporter who cuts-and-pastes other news reports online. Because if you want to be successful, you need to have that “about me” page on your blog (yes with the photo) and you need to start spreading your opinion and ideas in your blog posts.

Just look at successful blogs in the blogosphere, behind every successful blog there is a person. And most of the time, the blog is successful because of the author exclusively – his personality, his opinions, his ideas..etc.

Conclusion

I hope you found the tips useful. If there is anything you want to add, please do so in the comments section, so that others can benefit from it.

Chitika Premium has been #1 revenue sharing network that helps me earn the most from blogging for the last two months. It has become much better than Adsense this time and you can boost your Chitika earning if you can drive search targeted traffic to your blog.

I am not saying that I will not make money from Adsense anymore as it has been my #1 revenue sharing network and it will be #1 in the future too. However, this time, all of you know that price per click from adsense has dramatically been down and my monthly earning from adsense now is about 30-40% of previous year while traffic and content are still improved and growing up. That is why I decided to use most of my ad spots for Chitika Premium.

Chitika Premium now only pays for search targeted traffic and if your blog has over 60% from Google, Bing or Yahoo, you should consider to put Chitika Premium Ads and see how your revenue is boosted. I did and got a small success. For the same time displaying adsense (say 2 weeks) I got about $150.98 but Chitika Premium could bring my $200.67. It is higher then I decided to prioritize for Chitika.

Today, I would like to share with you guys a very interesting ebook about Chitika + Adsense ad placement guide. With this guide, you will know where and how to maximize your earning with both Google Adsense and Chitika Premium. This ebook is distributed for free of charge!

Sites like Facebook and Twitter may receive more attention in some circles, but blogs arent going anywhere. At BlogWorld, Blogger Product Manager Rick Klau talking about the state of Googles blog publishing system, along with blogging in general and how newer communications options come into the equation.

One big thing worth noting is that Blogger recently celebrated its tenth birthday. A host of fresh features were introduced at that time to both expand how people regard the service and thank individuals for continuing to use it. And use it is precisely what theyre doing.

Klau stressed that, with regards to blogs and Blogger, were not talking about a static or declining environment. In fact, he stated that 290,000 words are written on Blogger per minute worldwide, which represents an increase of 10 percent versus six months ago.

Klau said that Twitter and blogs each have their place, too, as blogging and microblogging arent part of a zero-sum game. If conversations are fragmented, thats fine. That can even be good. Twitter became the second-largest source of traffic (after Google) to Klaus blog when he implemented software that tweeted about his latest posts. He recommended this sort of service.

Another good idea to explore is using the new share to Twitter feature on Blogger.

As for what, precisely, to do with a blog (if youre new to them or just looking for some expert advice), Klaus advice was solid: focus on the content. Also, dont imitate what other people have done . . . instead find what youre passionate about and stick with it.

If your business website doesn’t have a blog, get one. A blog, if done right, can act as a direct and indirect mechanism that brings large amounts of qualified visitors to your site, many of whom may become customers.

This is mostly related to the way blogs interact with search engines and the traffic I am speaking of will come from search engines, mostly Google.

Before I explain how you can do this to help your website, let me first give some background on how search engines work, Google in particular.

When it comes to optimizing your website (or blog for that matter) for search engines you must always keep in mind two things: on page optimization and off page optimization.

On-page optimization is the elements of a Web page that better optimize it to be found and ranked well in the search engines. These elements can include on-page content such as the actual sentences and paragraphs on the page, the headlines (or headers or Hx tags), the links, the links’ text, the title tag and much more.

Off-page optimization means the things that are done on sites besides your site, namely link-building. Off-page optimization is the process of creating links (or causing others to create links) on other websites that point to your site. Inbound links as these are often called have a major impact on how well you rank in search engines. Generally speaking, the more inbound links, the better. But the quality of the sites with these inbound links, or the way the search engines perceive the sites, is even more important.

To rank on the first couple of pages on the search engines requires work on both on-page and off-page optimization.

Two additional and important pieces of information that you’ll need to understand are related to site content and internal links.

Search engines also very much love new, original and quality content, and they like to see your website regularly adding this kind of new content. You don’t need to add pages every day, just add pages at the same rate over time. So if you add a page a week to your site, keep it at around that same pace, or increase or decrease gradually.

A website can be considered a living entity in a sense. It certainly shouldn’t be static. It should grow over time. And the fantastic thing about content is that the more of it there is on your site, the more chances you have of getting found in the search engines.

The idea that inbound links help your search engine rankings that I explained above can be extended to your internal pages as well. In other words, the more links to a particular page coming from other pages within the same site will boost that page’s rank as well.

Think of it this way. If you had a ten page site, including a product page and every page on the site contained a link to your product page and, if all other things were equal, your product page would rank higher than the rest of your site’s pages (besides the home page which is given a little extra weght).

Now let’s consider what would happen if there were only you and your competitor in your industry (if only that could be true!) and your site still had those ten pages while your competitor’s site contained one hundred pages. Furthermore, your competitor set it up the same way as you where he added a link to every page on his site that pointed to his product page. If all other things were equal, his product page would outrank your product page every time. Why? Because he had 100 internal links pointing to his product page and you only had 10.

If you put all these pieces together now, on-page optimization, off-page optimization or link building, content creation and internal linking, can you begin to see why a blog may be a good thing? A blog helps with all of these.

A blog that is regularly updated is providing a mechanism for adding fresh content on a regular basis. Plus, it’s so easy to use a blog that anyone can use them, so even if you or your employees don’t know a thing about Web pages and HTML, you’ll still be able to add new content to your site.

Consider this. If you add fresh, quality content to your blog on a regular basis by writing posts, something the search engines love, and within each post you link to an important page within your site, let’s say your product page for instance, you’re now building links to help your rankings using your blog. With this additional link your product page gets that much more boost in the search engines.

Remember how I explained that links from within your site help your rankings? Adding links within your blog posts pointing back to your other important pages that you want to rank well is a great way to help your rankings.

And every time you publish a new post, you’re giving the search engines one more entry point into your site. Your site will quickly get bigger, and with each new page your site gets more visible.

Keep in mind that the links you make within your blog posts should be relevant. Only link to your product page from a post that has to do with your products. And also, blog posts ought to be useful to your site visitors. The less you talk about your products and instead offer useful, free information that people can use, the more traffc and repeat visitors you’ll get.

Remember that people really don’t care about you, your website or your products, they only care about how you can help them. If you sell furniture, a blog post about how to find the best deals on furniture would be far better than a post about how your chairs are the best in the world.

One important thing to remember is that if you plan on creating a new blog for your business as a way to augment your website be sure you put the blog on your actual domain. This means that you would not use a remote service like Blogger.com. Instead, you must have the blog on your business website’s address (or domain). For example, if your website address is http://www.yoursite.com/ then your blog should be located at http://www.yoursite.com/blog or http://blog.yoursite.com/

By adding a blog to your business website you are creating a way to get additional traffic. You’ll get direct traffic from your posts, which get indexed by the search engines and drive traffic to your site from searches. And, you’ll get indirect traffic from your other site’s pages ranking well in the search engines because they have links pointing to them from your blog posts.

You’ll be regularly adding fresh content to your site, which search engines love, thereby creating more ways to be found in the search engines at the same time. And each post provides a new chance to create a link or two to other pages and blog posts on your site, thereby boosting those pages’ rankings.

Like I suggested at the beginning, if your business website doesn’t have a blog, go get one.

There many blog authors arguing which blogging method is king. Some says Content is the King and some says Marketing is the King.

For you, which is king? This post will express my opinion regarding these two successful blogging techniques.

Is Content a King?

As many other successful blogging gurus teach you, Content is the king of all methods to be successful on blogging business or internet marketing. Creating quality contents to your blog is indeed one of the best ways to drive traffic to your blog. Meaning, content is considered as the flesh of your blog while traffic is its blood. Having these two elements, would let stay alive on the blogosphere (the world of blogs).

Is having content on your blog enough to be successful in online business? There are many great articles I had read but they are not gaining much traffic. In other words, those quality articles didnt receive good rewards from search engine to earn free traffic. In which the author end up to discouragement and abandoned their blogs because they havent earn money from it if they were willing to. Its sad to say. Would you let it happen to you? I guest you wont. What should you do?

Huh! Marketing is the King?

A blogger had already revealed his secret why marketing is the king and not the content. The first time I had read this article, I was convinced that I think he is right from the examples he had shown. But then I realized that marketing blogs without quality contents is like selling a rotten meat in the market. Who would try to revisit your blog if you dont have the quality information which your readers need?

Content vs. Marketing

Upon balancing these two great strategies, I figured out that these two strategies must have in your blogging and internet marketing activities in order to succeed online. After creating quality content for your blog, you must apply the marketing processes you knew to gather readers or viewers all you have to do is to market that content to gather readers or viewers on it.

Its not enough that you all have the quality contents on your blog where no one is reading or viewing on it, right? Because it only consumes your efforts and time without receiving profit reward from it.
